I am a board-certified psychiatrist in private practice. I live in Los Angeles with my husband and two kids. In 2006, I was diagnosed with an ultra-rare, genetic, progressively debilitating neuromuscular disease called HIBM (Hereditary Inclusion Body Myopathy), more currently know as GNE-Myopathy. It is a muscle-wasting disease that, according to the literature, leads to “severe incapacitation” within 10-15 years of diagnosis. Five years into my disease, as I traveled farther along the path towards acceptance, I started chronicling my journey on this blog.
